Don't Sweat A Summer Wedding

There are so many benefits to having a summer wedding- seasonal flowers, outdoor scenery, guests having travel flexibility, more hours of sunlight, etc. But if you’re having a wedding in the south, one of the biggest downfalls is the heat. Summers in the south can be sweltering hot and this summer is already no joke. As event planners in central Texas, we’ve had our fair share of HOT events. The Perfect Day has tips and tricks for surviving the heat for you and your guests.

Tip #1- Offer Shade from the Sun

If your dream venue doesn't offer an inside option, a tented reception is the next best thing. Not sure where to rent from? The Perfect Day can help you out! Wedding tents are excellent for outdoor celebrations and give ethereal vibes. Parasol umbrellas are also a great source of shade. They're perfect for the ceremony and give a southern elegant vibe and double as a chic prop for wedding photos. Your guests will appreciate any protection from the sun and even more with a refreshing beverage in hand.

Tip #2- Provide Lighter Foods and Drinks

Barbecue is a staple in Texas, but you might want to skip it for a summer wedding. Offer lighter foods and specialty drinks like mojitos and frozen margaritas. Serving lighter foods can spark creativity with your menu like pan seared salmon over broccolini and incorporate summer flavors like citrus. Don’t forget to provide cold water for your guests! Serving a fruit infused water station before the ceremony will have everyone hydrated and ready to party. End with a delicious late night snack such as an ice cream cart or a smores bar!

Tip #3- Present Entertainment as a Distraction

Providing activities for your guests will keep their mind off of the heat and keep them entertained for cocktail hour. The Perfect Days offers a lawn game package that includes giant Jenga, corn hole, and connect four. It’s a fun way to get people to utilize the outdoor space. Beer Burros have also been extremely popular in 2022. It’s a great photo opportunity and guests love being served cold beer by the donkeys!

Tip #4- Give Summer Appropriate Favors

Perfect for a summer wedding, a handheld fan will help guests stay cool and can double as a wedding program. “Don’t be blinded by our love” sunglasses are fun and can be used as a photo prop. Treat your guests with a practical favor that can help relieve the heat.

Tip #5- Accommodate Your Guests Any Way You Can

When planning your wedding, take your guests' comfort into consideration. Avoid the hottest part of the day and research when the sun will be at the highest. If your wedding takes place outside, think about starting around 6 o'clock when the sun begins to fall. Don’t forget to tell your guests it’s outdoors so they can dress appropriately.
